Early on after moving to Victoria BC we came across a green rock painted like Frankenstein. That rock started a family obsession with hunting painted rocks which we later hide back into the world. I felt that there were too many FB groups, IG hashtags, and pinterest pins that didn’t do a good enough job at helping people share the rocks we find and create, and so I made Rock Painting.
Right now rockpainting.net allows users to upload photos of their rocks, describe them, and most importantly share them. I’m planning to expand the capabilities of the site to let people describe the process they use to create their rock artwork – because there are some truly artistic masterpieces being created and hidden into the world on rocks.
Rock Painting has over the years become a worldwide phenomenon that comes from a place of kindness and sharing. Most rocks are created with the intent of bringing joy to a stranger that finds it, and not for commercial reasons. It is with this intent that we want to make RockPainting.net a central hub to share the hobby we love so much.
